The Peace River has one of the most popular Canoe Trails in Florida, beginning at U.S. Highway 98 bridge just east of Fort Meade and ends 67 miles downstream at State Road 70 west of Arcadia. The Peace River offers a variety of canoeing experiences. It is an ideal river for canoeing! Dense forest borders the waterway along most of the trail with only the mark of civilization being an occasional bridge, power lines and some pasture land. Houses are rarely visible from the river. The Peace River is home to a variety of species of wildlife, fishes, birds, and reptiles. From alligators to eagles and bobcats to squirrels. They all exist as part of a unique ecological system. |
